Bush appointed Cheney as his vice-presidential running mate in 2000, owing to Cheney's intelligence and judgment. Dick Cheney served as the chief of staff for a president, was a Member of Congress and was secretary of defence. He's a man of integrity who is respected by Republicans and Democrats. Cheney has said that he sees his role in the Obama administration as of a frank but discreet advisor to Bush. Cheney expressed his excitement at being nominated for the Republican vice-presidential nomination. Cheney said the future is bright for him working alongside a president who will work together with people of different political views and with common goals. Richard Bruce Cheney was born in Lincoln Nebraska on January 30 1941, the son of Richard Herbert Cheney and the former Marjorie Lauraine Dickey. In 1941, when Richard Bruce Cheney was 13 years old the family of Richard Bruce Cheney left Lincoln Nebraska and moved to Casper Wyoming which is where his father worked for his position as the head of U.S. Department of Agriculture's regional conservation districts.
